Primary Care Plan
• Are there any alternatives to HMO’s?
• Can I have a Family Doctor, even though I do not have health insurance?
• I’m a small business owner. Is there a low cost health benefit for my employees?
Yes, yes and yes! Finally, there is an alternative way to purchase primary medical care. Family Doctors of East Providence, Inc. offers new and established patients the Primary Care Plan (PCP).
PCP is simple. For modest membership payments of $25 per month and $5 per office visit*, patients receive comprehensive, office-based primary medical care from a respected group of Board Certified Family Physicians. PCP includes: pediatric check ups (including immunizations), adult complete physical exams, sick visits and follow up visits for sub acute and chronic problems. There are no extra charges for tetanus booster shots, EKG’s, minor surgery and other common primary care procedures.**
*$25 for urgent visits after hours, weekends and holidays.
** Certain high-cost supplies, such as injectable antibiotics and in-office lab tests, may carry an extra charge.
Not Health Insurance
PCP is not health insurance. PCP is an innovative variation on fee-based service. For your set membership fee of not more than $25 per month, you receive the discounted rate of $5 for all necessary office visits during regular hours at Family Doctors of East Providence. You are treated like any other patient in the practice and receive the same high quality care from your personal physician. All physicians at Family Doctors of East Providence are Board Certified in Family Medicine.
What’s Not Covered
Because PCP is not health insurance, all services provided outside the office setting and services provide by parties not affiliated with Family Doctors of East Providence, are not part of the plan. Examples include: prescription drugs, emergency room visits, hospital bills, specialists, lab fees, x-ray fees, physical therapy, etc. Therefore, PCP is a natural fit with supplemental plans to pay for these costs. Major medical insurance plans (low cost-high deductible insurance) and medical savings accounts, when they are options, can offset costs that are incurred outside our office. However, one need not have supplemental coverage to enroll in PCP.
How Do I Pay? You may choose monthly invoicing. Or for a greater discount, you may authorize monthly automatic debit of your credit card. All members pay a none time initiation fee of $15.After that, there is only the monthly membershipfee and the low office visit fees.
An Ounce of Prevention...
Overall health costs are rising rapidly. But primary care costs are rising more slowly. Primary care (Family Medicine in particular), with it’s focus on prevention and care of the whole person and family, will always offer the least expensive and most cost-effective way to spend health care dollars. We as Family Doctors treat about 80% of medical problems that come through our doors. Because we are familiar with so many aspects of our patient’s lives, we often focus in on problems and treat them without expensive tests. In fact, most of the tests we order are for screening purposes - to prevent more complicated and costly future problems. This is why our Primary Care Plan is so reasonably priced. At Family Doctors of East Providence, we work hard to make sure you get the best possible medical care. It just costs less to do it!
